Katarzyna Estate is situated at the same latitude with one of the world’s famous wine regions of Italy, France and Spain. The Domain is created in the former border area, also known as ”The No man’s land”, dividing Bulgaria and Greece in the south-east part of the country surrounded by virgin nature that has been preserved from any human activities over the last decades.
Katarzyna Estate is officially established in 2007.
The climate is temperately-continental with strong Mediterranean influence. An important prerequisite for the favorable development of the wines in the region is the unique air-corridor which is formed between the Sakar Mountain and the East Rodopi. The characteristics of this climate is warm summers and mild winters with low annual temperature range. Katarzyna Estate is located in a region with continuous sunshine.
Katarzyna Estate has 550 ha own vineyards in one of the best vine-growing regions of Bulgaria. The varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah,, Malbec, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and the local variety Mavrud comply with the climatic region and soil type.
Our philosophy is: “The wine is created on the wine. We just take care for it while it is in our cellar.”
Our goal is using traditional winemaking techniques to uncover the uniqueness of our vineyards its’ terroir, to create wines which represent the elegance of “the old world” and find this pure balance between fruit, acid, oak and tannins.
